IN OUR 2015/16 PROGRAMME
Our programme of films for the new club year, from February 2015 to January 2016, has been finalised and you can find out what we will be showing and when on the What's On page, clicking on the poster images or titles to see the details and, in most cases, links to trailers.
members have been sent our colourful
printed programme and they will be
available, free, to everyone from
Saturday 3rd January, from the Playhouse
Cinema, Cannon Street, or Off The Beaten
Tracks record shop at 36 Aswell Street,
or from Louth Library or the Tourist
The 24 films in the programme comprise the pick of what's been a brilliant past 12 months for new films, along with four great classic movies, restored and rereleased in new digital cinema prints. The new films come from as far apart as China and the USA, from conflicting neighbours Israel and Palestine and from as diverse locations as Australia's western desert, Turkey's Anatolian mountains and Russia's Arctic coast. And we will be kicking off, on Monday 9th February, with our first ever film from Laos. Europe will be represented this year by France, as ever, along with Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland, Iceland and, of course, the UK.
We'll be screening several winners of major awards, including the Polish film Ida, Best Film at both the London Film Festival and the European Film Awards, and Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Winter Sleep, which won the coveted Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. These two films, along with Russia's Leviathan, are hotly tipped to be nominated for the 2015 Foreign Language Film Oscar.
The classics in the programme include Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and David Lean's Lawrence Of Arabia, the latter to be shown at a special screening, followed by a party for members, to celebrate the club's 10 years of existence.
Membership forms, for new and renewing members, can be found inserted into the printed programmes or can be downloaded from the website. New members joining before either or both of the last two films in the current, 2014/15 programme, on 12th January and 26th January, will also be able to see them for the members’ ticket price. Existing members renewing their subscriptions by 31st January can do so for only £8.
Non-members are welcome at club films but pay the Playhouse Cinema’s normal ticket prices.
