Martin Provost. France. 2009. 125 mins. Cert PG

In the first decade of the 20th Century art dealer William Uhde lives in an apartment near Paris. The servant, Séraphine, is largely an object of fun, but Uhde discovers a small painting by her and, with his encouragement, she becomes one of the most original artists in France. The film, based on the real-life story of Séraphine de Senlis, beautifully traces her art and life.
