This landmark British film, based on Shelagh Delaney’s play, broke several taboos. Rita Tushingham is outstanding as the put-upon Jo and Dora Bryan (her mother), Robert Stephens (her flash suitor), Paul Danquah (her black lover) and Murray Melvin (her gay friend) head a strong supporting cast.
