Billy Bob Thornton is mesmerising as the constantly smoking small-town barber Ed Crane, mixed up in murder in 1949 Santa Rosa. He tries to blackmail his wife’s boss and lover for money to invest in dry cleaning, but his plan goes horribly wrong. A film with terrific acting, an exquisite script and extraordinarily beautiful black and white photography.
